New Wii consoles from Japan are unmodabble?

Modded Wii - Image 1There are some rumors going around that the latest batch of Nintendo Wiis coming out of Japan will be unmoddable. Now, we say rumors because unless we get more reports on the said batch or get news from Nintendo Company Ltd., we can’t confirm it.

The Japanese version is said to have 3-pins physically cut from a surface-mounted IC, thus making it unmoddable. Now, just for those who choose to act on this, it’s said that there are still some moddable units available in 188 and Golden (we’re assuming these are in Hong Kong).

If you’re in the area and want a moddable Wii for yourself, you better move pretty quickly since everyone’s going to be gunning for those units. The Wii NTSC-U hasn’t undergone the change yet but if it proves to be an efficient way of stopping pirates, then it could be heading our way.

This should be of no concern for those who only play licensed original games (like we do) but those who insist on playing pirated games may be in for some problems. We also came across the picture of the said IC Chip with the 3 pins cut so it’s up to you if you decide to put stock in this. More on this as more information comes up.
