Microsoft explains the Halo “viral” campaign
Microsoft‘s “viral” campaign has been getting some attention lately. While it can be argued that Halo 3 is big enough to not need this kind of marketing, this just simply pushed the hype for the game to a whole new level.
A spokesperson for Microsoft spoke to Eurogamer about this move, and what the company had in mind when it started it. The project has been codenamed Iris, and it’s “a spiral campaign designed to take gamers on an incredible journey through the Halo Universe.” It was said that the project is “led by an ‘unknown’ hand” where “users will discover bits of previously unknown information about the Halos, the Flood, the Forerunners, and the true origins behind the Halo trilogy.”
For those who are worried about the quality of the content that will be released throughout this event, relax. Most of the material were written by Frank “Frankie” O’Connor from Bungie. He is also joined by community manager Brian Jarrard and artist Aaron LeMay, so we can expect that it will remain true to Bungie’s vision to the spirit of Halo.
It’s said that the campaign will run for a few weeks this summer, and it promises to reveal valuable information regarding the origins of the conflict. While Microsoft hasn’t revealed any rewards for joining this event, a lot of the community may feel that just taking part is reward enough for them.
This is quite impressive for a marketing campaign, and looks to be a thrilling ride for Halo fans everywhere. Gamedrop posted quite a few pictures on this and we thought that some readers might want to see what’s been going on. We’ll be covering this as more news happens.
