Call the stores: Cheaper PS3s already being sold?

You may want to call your nearest electronics retailer to be sure, but it seems that some stores in the US have already begun selling PS3 units at the fabled US$ 499 price tag.

A day or so ago, news sites and blogs were getting conflicting words from retailers and Sony, with some retail moles saying that stores are already set up to sell cheaper PS3s, with Sony exec Ryoji Chubachi denying those rumors.

Well, PS3 Fanboy currently has additional updates on the matter, noting that some of their readers are informing them of the sales in progress. They’ve got a short list of people saying that retail outlets are already selling the PS3 for less, with folks in Kansas and California (among other places) saying that they’ve been able to nab a PS3 for US$ 499.

Perhaps Sony’s waiting to make a big announcement about it, or perhaps it’s all a big hoax. Truth be told, there probably isn’t a better reaction than to have a delighted Sony fan find out that his local store is selling the PS3 at reduced prices. If you’re planning on getting a unit, you guys may want to check your local shops. Just remember to ask nicely.
