WoW: The necessity of limiting the essence drops from mobs
A lot of players have been complaining about the limited essence drops from mobs in World of Warcraft. Some have even suggested having a scaling system where the common drops will be converted into the more desirable ones.
Well, this is all really good in theory, but apparently, the implementation of this may be a little more complex and difficult than just coding it in. Blizzard poster and forum moderator Drysc addressed this issue in a rather long post which explained the necessity for limiting essence drops and the scaling system’s possible impact on the game.
It’s been brought up but it would be necessary that we go back and limit the drops of the essences from Azerothian mobs as they’re obviously much lower level, and in most cases have higher drop rates for essences. We’re then restricting lower level players who actually need the essences, by lowering the drop rates so that they don’t become a more viable way to acquire motes/primals.
Also taking into account that it would simply be driving more motes and thus primals into the economy (essences are an addition, not replacement to mote drops), as well as reducing the amount of essences which are still used, and it doesn’t look like a change that we’re too hot on.
As a solution to being able to do something with the essences you have it’s not a bad idea, but what it would require and affect is a little more complex. And really, while there’s a lot more essences now than there used to be, it takes a lot of time to get stacks and stacks where it’s suddenly a burden on your bag space.
While Drysc made very valid points, players still have a problem with the concept of having to grind for essences. We know that there’s a balance to maintain but we’re sure a lot of players are really tired of grinding for it. Perhaps there’s a better system that could be implemented to avoid this?
