With an alarming rate of Xbox 360 failures, Microsoft answered with a three year warranty extension. Hardware sales skyrocketed soon after, and thousands of users became satisfied. Even so, it’s undeniable that defective 360 units are out there. Why not just recall them to fix the problem entirely? “No recall required,” said Peter Moore.
In an interview with Kotaku, Corporate VP and Chief Xbox Spokesperson Peter Moore stated that “it is not a product safety issue.” He continued, “The great majority of people don’t have [defective units].” Seems like he is positive that the warranty extension is enough to keep everyone happy.

This is not a product safety issue. It’s a warranty that is there to take care of the customers that may or may not have this issue. And as you know, the great majority of people don’t have this problem, but enough people do that we felt we had to take care of them.
