Halo Online – The Billion Dollar Game?
A man who calls himself “The Mole” has given his thoughts on Halo 3 Forerunner, which he suspects will be an MMOFPS. Imagine a game where teams of hundreds of people would battle it out over vast environments attempting to secure bases. Instead of levelling up new arsenal can be unlocked and more territory can be controlled. Considering the fan base for the Halo series, it seems like releasing a Halo title with a monthly fee would be a financially rewarding move for Microsoft.
The reasoning behind his prediction is based around the success of World of Warcraft along with previous Microsoft statements. A while back nobody would’ve expected any MMORPG to have 6 million subscribers paying $15 a month to play, but World of Warcraft managed to pull this off just fine. Blizzard was able to develop a game that delivered an enthralling experience who’s popularity simply can’t go unrecognized. If Bungie was able to get 10 million subscribers paying over $10 a month, in about three years they would receive over one billion dollars in revenue.
Bungie has mentioned Halo as being a battle for Earth, and what would be a better way to play this battle out than by actually having people all over the world fight for territories? With Sony’s answer to Xbox Live set for release in November, it’s looking as if the battle of the next generation of consoles will be fought online. Although this article is purely speculation, The Mole has come up with a plausible theory that could earn Microsoft a fortune while also delivering an innovative gaming experience that Halo fans would just eat up.
