Sony Compact Vault Offers 8GB
Sony announces a summer release of the new Compact Vault, 8GB storage disk. The Compact Vault is essentially a microdrive, which will fit in any gadget – presumably aimed toward cameras – that uses a Compact Flash card. The 8GB size isn’t entirely new, but the price point should be right around $259, which would undercut other current players by at least $50.
Look forward to transfer speeds of 12MB per second. Which still won’t feel fast enough when you consider it’ll be downloading up to 2500 jpgs (at 3mb per), or 320 minutes of mpeg4 video.
Microdrives differ from typical flash-based Compact Flash memory, in that they are actual mini hard drives.
