Interview: Team 17 talks about Worms: A Space Oddity for Wii
Those wacky war mongering worms are at it again. This time they’ve taken themselves all the way into space in their latest warfare campaign for the Wii in Worms: A Space Oddity. In an interview conducted by IGN, Karl Gilbert, one of the members of Team 17 (the developers) talks about the newest installment in the Worms video game saga.
The new game still takes a page from its previous iterations with all the basic elements that make the Worms series such a fun strategy game. New elements that our tiny little soldiers will have to face will be the new environment that they’ll be fighting in. For instance, every planet has a unique gravitational setting which will affect how far their weapons will go or how high they can jump across the terrain.
The game will also make use of the Wiimote in a variety of ways and not just as a means to point-and-click your way through the game. Each weapon will have a unique gesture which helps control the weapon to a slight degree, depending on how the gesture was performed. Since no compatibility will be given to the classic or Gamecube controller, players will have to master these gestures if they want to excel at blasting the opposition.
Customization of your worms’ team in appearance will also be a welcome option, as well as the online aspect of the game. While team multiplayer matches won’t be in effect, a nice free for all is still just as fun.
Lastly, the Landscape Editor available in Worms: Open Warfare 2 (PSP and Nintendo DS) will be utilized to this game as well. Players will be able to create their own landscapes and then test it out with their friends online.
When asked for any final words on the project, Gilbert had this to say: “All I can say is to keep an eye out for Worms: A Space Oddity as it’s shaping up to be a very great game indeed!”
