Bahrain World Trade Center Towers: Pictures of the new turbines
Now here’s something that looks to belong in the world of Final Fantasy XIII. The EcoGeek site just picked up some new pictures of the ongoing work on Bahrain’s soon-to-be World Trade Center Towers. The images in question are of the skyscraper’s three massive new turbines – 29 meters in diameter each – which are expected to harness the area’s winds to power both 240-meter-tall towers. There’s not really much to say, expect for us to invite you guys to take the time to gloss over the images of these gargantuan, hopefully eco-friendly, constructs.
In case you’re asking, the Bahrain World Trade Center Towers are located in the capital city of Manama, and are expected to open 2008. It’s supposedly the very first building on record to use turbines like these to create its own electricity. UK‘s WS Atkins PLC engineering firm – the turbine’s designers – estimate that the turbines will cover 11 to 15 percent of the power requirements for both towers.
