No More Heroes confirmed for NA

A few days after the Japan release date announcement for Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture‘s No More Heroes, we got another big news coming your way. The upcoming action adventure video game for the Nintendo Wii is coming to North America.

IGN has picked up the said news from the NA publishers of the title, Ubisoft. According to reports, No More Heroes will be coming to these shores two months after it wreaks havoc in Japan. Mark your calendars, boys and girls, that’s February 2008.

In case you haven’t had the slightest idea of what No More Heroes is about, think Afro Samurai, only with more ranked assassins but no ranked headbands. Players get to slip their feet into Travis Touchdown’s shoes, an otaku (anime fan) who is aspiring to be number one. The sandbox game will have you swinging your Wiimotes to attack with Touchdown’s lightsabe… er – beam katana. Tony Key, Ubisoft’s VP of marketing had this to say about the partnership:

For Ubisoft, it was a perfect match up. Suda 51 and the developers at Grasshopper Manufacture are extremely talented and creative and what they have developed specifically for the Wii is an incredibly unique game for a mature audience. Ubisoft is bringing the title to the North American market because we believe there is a viable market for mature games on the Wii platform – an audience that has been underserved up to now.

Also, both Ubisoft and Grasshopper Interactive promised that the North American version of No More Heroes will be its Japanese counterpart’s identical twin in terms of content. Check this space for more news about the video game. And while you wait for updates, here’s “Meet the Heroes” video to tide you over for the meantime. Enjoy!
