PSP, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII shoot to top of Japanese charts
Thanks in part to the success of Square Enix‘s Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the Sony PlayStation Portable has shot to the top of the Japanese hardware charts for the week ending September 16.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII dominated the Japanese software charts, selling 487,000 copies in its first week of release alone. Second and third place went to the DS titles Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai and Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai respectively.
Meanwhile, the PSP sold 95,487 units in the week ending September 16, a huge jump from its sales figure of 15,564 units for the week before that. The Nintendo DS continued to have steady sales, holding the number 2 spot with 79,974 units. The Nintendo Wii was in third place with 26,181.
Sony’s PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 home video consoles held the fourth and fifth positions respectively – the former selling 13,128 units and the latter selling 13,101 units. The Microsoft Xbox 360 was in sixth place with 1243 units sold.
