Rumor: Super Mario Galaxy hits 700,000 pre-orders in Japan

Rumor: Super Mario Galaxy hits 700,000 pre-orders in Japan - Image 1Rumor has it that Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii has received 700,000 pre-orders from Japanese retailers. This information was originally reported by Japanese blogger Sinobi and has not been confirmed nor denied by Nintendo.

If the numbers prove to be accurate, then this title has the distinction of being the most pre-ordered game on the Wii so far. This wouldn’t be surprising considering that previous Mario games really sold very well during their first week. A fine example of this would be New Super Mario Bros. on the DS which sold a whopping 420,000 copies on the first day, hitting 900,000 by day four.

If you’re planning on picking up the game, Super Mario Galaxy is slated for launch this November 1 in Japan, November 12 in the U.S., November 16 in Europe, and November 29 in Australia.
