At the GSTAR Game Expo held in South Korea, Nexon KoreaÂ’s international business division general manager Jamie Kang has revealed that they’ve been working on a new Xbox 360 port of the MMORPG Mabinogi for over a year now. He also shared some details about Maple Story DS which he said will not be an MMORPG like the original Maple Story but an action-adventure RPG.
For those unfamiliar with Mabinogi, it is an MMORPG which uses cel-shaded graphics and a leveling system based on the attribute points assigned to a character. When asked about the details of the game, Kang said that “it’s being developed internally – but thereÂ’s not much more we can say at this time”.
He did however mention quite a few details about the upcoming Maple Story DS. Kang pointed out that they’re aggressively developing the game and that it is currently in very good shape. He said that it will not be an MMORPG type game but a typical action RPG. In a nod to fans of the MMORPG, however, he also indicated that they do plan on including a few WiFi features in the game.
During the event it was also revealed that developers from the Nintendo Kyoto headquarters have been helping out Nexon in the development of Maple Story DS. Nexon has said that the people working on the project with them have been “very helpful” with the project.
So far no announcements have been made with regards to an international release of Mabinogi but some have speculated that we might be seeing both games released in North America and PAL regions, considering the price of game development. On the other hand, Maple Story DS will be released internationally, though an exact date has yet to be announced.
