Nintendo: Virtual Console bringing in US$ 33 million in sales
For those of us currently enjoying some fine retro-gaming happy via Nintendo’s Virtual Console channel, did you ever stop and think just how much Nintendo’s getting from all the downloads? While it may seem difficult – after all, you can’ t put a price on nostalgia – it seems that they’re making quite a killing with their service. Check the full article for the entire scoop.
We can all agree that the Virtual Console channel feature of the Nintendo Wii is awesome, as it lets us play the games of old in their purest, unadulterated forms. This is, of course, after a quick and easy purchase from the Wii Shop Channel, via electronic credits called Wii Points.
But did you ever stop to think just how much Nintendo’s earning from this neat little service? If you have, then good news: it seems that ol’ Nintendo is actually raking in a lot of dough from the Virtual Console channel.
So, just how much is Nintendo earning from Virtual Console downloads? Try JPÂ¥ 3.5 billion (US$ 33 million approximately). This figure was revealed during a recent press conference held by Nintendo, with the figures popping up in the middle of a Q&A session. Nintendo executive Shinji Hatano was in the hot seat then.
Despite the rather large figures, it seems that the company doesn’t quite know what to make of it. Shinji Hatano himself said that Nintendo itself is “currently unsure if this is a lot or low.” He did end his statement by saying that a figure like US$ 33 million is, in itself, not bad. We’d say so ourselves, if we suddenly got a check with that much penned in.
