EA: FIFA 08 is the true entertainment launch of the year
It’s no secret that FIFA ’08 (PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, PSP, Wii) is one of the more popular games around. This game hit the one million sales mark in the UK in just nine weeks after its release. It’s no secret that FIFA ’08 (PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, PSP, Wii) is one of the more popular games around. This game hit the one million sales mark in the UK in just nine weeks after its release. Obviously, Electronic Arts is very happy with the sales of their soccer game, none more so than the company’s UK marketing manager Dan Holman.
Holman said that FIFA ’08 is “the true entertainment launch of the year.” He added that they have the only next-generation football game in the market. He backed up this claim saying that Konami‘s Pro Evolution Soccer (Xbox 360, PS3) wasn’t as good as others expected it to be:
Konami by its own admission has faltered with its offering – shipping a game with ‘rushed development’ which is forcing it back to the drawing board. FIFA 08 is the only true next-gen football game on the market and we have significant plans in the run-up to Christmas to maximize our current leadership.
It seems that EA’s UK marketing manager couldn’t stop gushing about the success of FIFA ’08, and we can’t really blame him. So before we go, here are a few parting words from Holman:
Being the first game to reach the one million unit milestone this calendar year is a fantastic achievement and makes FIFA 08 the true entertainment launch of the year. To have beaten the records we set last year with FIFA 07 makes it all the more satisfying.
