Mazzee II v1.0b2

Mazzee II v1.0b2 - Image 1 It’s been a while since we’ve heard developments coming our way from homebrew developer Leo28C, so this news is definitely a welcome pre-New Year surprise. The PSP homebrew developer flexed coding abilities once more for another game for the Sony PlayStation Portable, and it comes in the form of a beta release version of Mazzee II – version 1.0b2, that is. More in store at the full story.

Mazzee II v1.0b2 - Image 1Homebrew developer Leo28C takes to the PSP homebrew game scene with Mazzee II, a little adventure with a blend of Balance Ball and Chip’s Challenge thrown into the mix. Unlike the author’s previous works, Mazzee II version 1.0b2 is not a Lua game; rather, it’s a stand alone application built on C for the Sony PlayStation Portable.

The game is relatively simple: the player must guide the smiley across narrow pathways in what appears to be a dimensional chasm. Unfortunately for you, the pathways aren’t walled off, and the cheerful face’s movement is inertia-based. If you’re not careful (or skilled) enough, that grinning avatar will most likely be taking nose-dives to the nothingness below – time and time again.

But that’s not all: the player will also have to contend with a slew of puzzle solving elements in the form of gates and key matching, so exploring the entire level is actually a must. But once you pluck the keys from their spots and safely make it back to the gates, the rest should be a cakewalk.

Though Mazzee II has been in the Leo28C’s hands for a while now, it still has much to improve upon. The initial release of Mazzee II is partially unstable, because losing your life three times could crash to a blue screen dead end (shown below). There have been some feedback that the crash could occur after dying twice, but the magic number on our end was three.

Also the game starts off at level 11 which shouldn’t be so. Leo28C claimed to have fixed the issue with Mazzee II, but the version we got our paws on exhibited the same erroneous symptoms. That version is available for download below, and if you’re extra careful not to fall off the ledges, you’d find that Mazzee II is a delightful leisurely treat.
