OpenTTD v0.5.3 - support for PSP Slim, 3.xx firmwares - Image 1

A few months ago, we reported the release of OpenTTD v0.5.2, brainchild of PlayStation Portable homebrew developer Jaime Peñalba. Well, guess what? Peñalba has just tipped us off that OpenTTD 0.5.3 is already available.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with OpenTTD, the homebrew game is Peñalba’s port of Chris Sawyer’s PC title Transport Tycoon Deluxe for the Sony handheld. The coder has improved upon the previous version of OpenTTD by fixing various bugs, including the tendency of the game to crash while playing midi music in the background.

Please note that support for FW 1.50 has been dropped, as the new hardware no longer supports it. That aside, here are the new features of OpenTTD 0.5.3 according to the developer himself:

  • Code updated to be Slim and 3.xx firmwares compatible
  • Code updated to 0.5.3 to be able to play on latest online servers
  • Game crash while playing background music fixed
  • Bug from last resize of replace trains window fixed
  • Windows can now be dragged out of screen limits, to be able to see windows which exceeded the screen height, such as the patches configuration dialog, just hold square pressed over a window to move it
  • Place Tree window now is displayed inside screen limits
  • PSP dedicated server upgraded to 0.5.3

Before you proceed to play, one caveat: OpenTTD 0.5.3 requires several copyrighted files from the original PC version of the game in order to run, and we unfortunately cannot host the said files here.

In the event that you have the aforementioned files already, here’s a polite reminder from Jaime Peñalba to help you make the most of your gaming experience: remember to take a look at the Readme file included with OpenTTD 0.5.3 for installation instructions.
