Guitar Hero 3 players upset over Activision e-mail faux pas
When you share confidential information – such as an e-mail address – with a company to register for a replacement disc, you’d naturally expect that company to keep the information secure, right?
Sometimes, however, what was supposed to have been kept secret can accidentally be let out into the open. That’s precisely what happened to Activision and the e-mail addresses of hundreds of Guitar Hero 3 players. More on the embarrassing error after the jump.
How would you feel if someone inadvertently shared your private e-mail address with everyone else? That’s precisely what Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii) players felt when an Activision customer service update mistakenly exposed their addresses to other recipients.
Apparently, Activision sent an update to all players who registered for replacement discs of the Nintendo Wii version of Guitar Hero 3. The problem was that the e-mail addresses of all the other players who received the same customer support update were also listed in the To: field of the e-mail message.
Fortunately, Activision appears to be open to receiving complaints from disgruntled customers. If you’re one of the Guitar Hero 3 players who’s been affected by the company’s error, you may get in touch with Activision’s Business and Legal Affairs-slash-Privacy Policy Department at (310) 255-2000.
