New PSN ad makes a hit against Xbox Live fees?
Since time immemorial, companies have always used advertisements to subtly (or none-too-subtly) bash their competitors. And while we want to give Sony the benefit of the doubt, it could be the same case here.
Check out what’s so mean about the latest Sony PlayStation Network ad in the full article.
The console war may be heating up hotter and faster than we previously thought, and it seems that Sony‘s on the offensive as far as citing the other parties’ shortcomings are concerned.
We see this in a very subtle way via the latest PlayStation Network advertisement, where the tagline speaks of online play on the PlayStation 3 being completely free – as opposed to on the Xbox 360, where players have to pay an annual subscription free to experience the same. Ouch.
Well, we can’t really say that it’s a deliberate hit against Microsoft‘s Xbox Live subscription fees (it could be just, you know, a very convenient coincidence).
But the fact that you do have to pay to play online on Xbox Live does give Sony a lot to crow about. Of course, one doesn’t really need to pay for an Xbox Live Gold subscription – Xbox Live Silver is free and gives players the ability to not only chat with their friends, but also access downloadable content – but yeah, you do need to shell out some extra moolah for online joy.
If anything, we hope that Microsoft sees the ad and takes it as a challenge to make online play a bit more accessible. Fingers crossed!
