SCEE: PS3 to overtake Xbox 360 in PAL territories this summer

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president and CEO David Reeves said that this summer,  they are expecting the PlayStation 3 to have a bigger user base than the Xbox 360 in every PAL territories.

Encouraged by the increase in console sales, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president and CEO David Reeves said that they are now expecting the PlayStation 3 to have a greater installed user base than the Xbox 360 in all PAL territories by this summer.

To support his statement, Reeves mentioned that just last week, the PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 in all PAL territories by a ratio of three to one. In addition, over a million PlayStation 3s were sold across all PAL territories last December.

Reeves also claims that the PS3’s current cumulative installed base is now higher than that of the Xbox 360 in certain major markets in Europe. He further elaborated on this:

We don’t often mention the competition, but I will give you some interesting data: In terms of installed base in some of our major markets, such as France, Spain, Germany and Italy – plus some distributor territories in smaller markets like Switzerland – our current cumulative installed base is now higher than Xbox 360.

Inspite of the recent success, Reeves did mention that they still don’t have a hold on UK yet though they expect it to happen soon.
