Despite its current commercial success, it seems that Criterion Games and Electronic Arts haven’t informed the public well enough about some of the features of the Xbox 360 version of Burnout Paradise (also on PlayStation 3).

According to user jay123_2, he found out that the game needs a hard drive for accessing its online content. This means that owners of Core and Arcade Xbox 360 units can’t enjoy the game they purchased with other Xbox Live members.

To clarify everything, the user sent Electronic Arts an email and the company’s technical support division provided the following answer:

I understand that you are currently having issues with the requirements for Burnout Paradise. I apologize for your situation, and the inconvenience that this causes you.

The hard drive is needed to store temporary data when playing online as the data transferred from one console to another requires storage space greater than what the memory card can contain.

We don’t quite remember hearing such things from both the developer and the publisher prior to the release of Burnout Paradise. In any event, if you’re suffering from the same problems, we’ll update you with more information as soon as another development comes up.
