Super Smash Bros. Brawl update: Ness officially unveiled
You guys probably know this already thanks to the Japan trailer, but Ness has been confirmed as an unlockable character for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The lowdown on this recently unveiled hidden character is available in the full article.
As promised previously, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Dojo site has updated with the very first entry on its series on the game’s unlockable characters. This newcomer into the arena is none other than Ness, the protagonist of the EarthBound (Mother 2 in Japan) RPG.
The first details the players will want to know is that while Ness bares a striking resemblance to Mother 3‘s Lucas (also playable in SSBB), the pair aren’t just palette swaps of the same character. While Ness does share some of Lucas’ moves, their personal takes on these attacks are very, very different (sorta like Ken and Ryu of Street Fighter fame). Here’s a rundown on Ness’ attacks and how they stand out:
- PK Thunder: Ness’ version doesn’t turn as well as Lucas’, but it travels faster.
- PK Thunder (2): After getting hit with his own PK Thunder, Ness flies into the opponent with just one powerful hit.
- Side Smash: Ness’ version has a longer windup time that also hits much harder.
- Up and down smashes: Ness uses a yo-yo for both.
- PK Fire: Ness’ version bursts into a column that does multiple hits.
- PK Starstorm: Ness’ version has blue stars, and fans out in a wider pattern.
There appear to be two ways to unlock Ness in SSBB. The first method requires you to fight five matches in Brawl and reflect a total of 10 projectiles. You will then face Ness in a brawl – you’ll unlock him when you win. The second way to get Ness is to invite him into your party in The Subspace Emissary.
We’ve also managed to pick up several screenshots of Ness’ moves in SSBB. Enjoy viewing them, but be sure to keep alert in case more unlockable characters are added to SSBB‘s roster.
