Sony insider talks on new PlayStation 3 SKU
Talks of a new PlayStation 3 SKU have been running rampant lately, but evidence of this have been more or less circumstantial or just speculative. Now a Sony insider informs GameDaily that while a new SKU is indeed being planned, nothing is final yet. But even while nothing is final, the ideas being pitched around sound like good news for the console. Check out the full article to find out what the Sony insider has to say about the new PS3 SKU.
The rumor mill has been abuzz with talks of a new PlayStation 3 console in the works. Speculation has favored the release of a 120-160 GB SKU packaged with a Dual Shock 3 controller to come out this year.
Still, this is mostly speculation. Now a Sony insider talks to GameDaily BIZ about the new PS3 SKU. While this isn’t hard evidence of what’s to come, we can at least have something to chew on until Sony gives an official announcement.
According to the insider, a new SKU is indeed being planned, but nothing is final yet: “They are considering ways to put some relevant distance between the two PS3 SKUs, but it’s unclear how that will roll out.”
The insider said that the new SKU will “at least double” the storage space from the 80 GB model so we might indeed see the release of a 160 GB SKU or even one with a higher number. The insider explained that the extra large space is to “recognize the importance of digital distribution and the PlayStation Network.”
The insider also mentioned that Sony is “strongly considering” packaging in the Dual Shock 3 controller with the high-end SKU. But what about pricing? The insider said that new pricing is indeed possible. They might even introduce a price cut if they are able to bring production costs down. Hopefully, Sony will release official info soon.
