SCEA VP Steinberg: Seems like no PS3 price cut is needed now - Image 1You’ve probably heard that Microsoft has recently implemented a price cut for the Xbox 360. With that, it is only logical for PS3 fans to ask if Sony will do the same to keep its console competitive in the market.

SCEA VP of Product Marketing Scott Steinberg said, however, that no such price cuts are needed for the console. The full details await after the jump!

SCEA VP Steinberg: Seems like no PS3 price cut is needed now - Image 1Sony Computer Entertainment America VP of Product Marketing Scott Steinberg recently said that with the rate the PlayStation 3 is going, the company sees no reason to lower the price of the console.

It should be remembered that Sony has been enjoying an upward trend in terms of software and hardware sales since Fall 2007 and that the PS3 even toppled the Xbox 360 from the top spot last January.

“So we’re seeing that the hardcore gamer is not afraid to throw another US$ 100 at the PlayStation 3 because the value proposition is so rich. We’re still in the phase of studying what this means for the potential roadmap for the year,” Steinberg added.

Steinberg was referring to the study they conducted back in November when Sony began introducing other SKU builds. The official added that they were surprised to know that more gamers actually preferred the US$ 500 version.

“On a macro level, we’ve got leverage to turn that into a trend. Whether or not it continues going in February, the way I look at it is us structuring the chess board to our favor, which is without question happening, said the vice president.
