After years of constant rivalry between guilds and numerous championships that rewarded the best with huge amounts of money, NCsoft Europe and ArenaNet proudly announced that the population in Guild Wars broke the five million milestone in less than three years since the April 2005 release of its original campaign.
Over five million units have been sold in North America, Europe, and Asia, while NCsoft is confident that its current user base is strong enough to make way for the upcoming Guild Wars 2. “This success has built a great foundation from which the next generation of Guild Wars games will grow,” said NCsoft CEO Taek Jin Kim after giving credit to the popular online RPG’s unique business model and superior playability.
Citizens of Guild Wars are well aware of how ArenaNet cares for its fans, and none expect the transition to Guild Wars 2 to be a painful one. ArenaNet co-founder Mike O’Brien was quoted saying:
We are committed to supporting all of our Guild Wars players, and at the same time, weÂ’re extremely excited to work on the gameÂ’s evolution. Certainly the future of Guild Wars is as bright as its past and present.
