What we have for you here is a brief backgrounder on the NPC Gloin from the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. He is actually the father of Gimli and was very vital to the success of the Fellowship of the Ring. Know more details bout him after the jump!

Turbine Inc. has updated the lore page of its MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar to present the NPC Gloin.

Lore states that he was one of the thirteen companions of Thorin Oakenshield on the Quest of Erebor and father to Gimli. Gloin is a skilled fire-maker and think little of the hobbits at the beginning of the said quest.

Eventually, however, he started to respect them, especially the famed Bilbo Baggins. His known location is somewhere in the Lonely Mountains.

This particular character also played a major role as he was part of Elrond’s great council. While Gimli was the one selected to join the Fellowship of the Ring, Gloin was the one responsible for clearing the outcast Dourhands from the passes of the Misty Mountains.

If you are into the books behind The Lord of the Rings Online, you will know that Gloin has appeared in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In LotRO, however, one can find him encamped in the Misty Mountains, overseeing a defense against the Dourhands.
