Bungie on Halo 3 matchmaking revisions and Double Experience Weekends
Experience and change can be good things, especially if they’re coming from Bungie Studios for the purpose of making Halo 3 more fun for everybody. In the article that follows, Bungie outlines the details of the Double Experience Weekend and some changes it’s made to the game, so why not check things out after the jump?
If double experience sounds like a good thing to you, then you’re in for a treat this month. Bungie Studios has recently announced two Weekend Hoppers DoubleXP playlists for Halo 3 launching this month, the first of which was already launched as of noon yesterday. Furthermore, Bungie has also made some changes to maps and matchmaking in Halo 3, as listed below.
The first Weekend Hoppers DoubleXP playlist is Grifball, the game created by Burnie Burns of Red vs. Blue. Bungie has reportedly adjusted some of the rules for Grifball while keeping the core game intact (e.g. unlimited round times). This playlist is already underway and will last until noon PST of March 10, 2008.
The second playlist will begin on March 20, 2008 at noon PST and last until noon PST of March 23, 2008. It will be the return of Team SWAT in the Social, DoubleXP variety. Those of you who have played Halo 2 may remember this gametype. In it, players had no shields, no increased body health and no radar.
Bungie also noted the following changes that have been made to Halo 3 maps and matchmaking:
- Fixed map exploit on The Pit
- Fixed map exploit on Construct
- Fixed map exploit on Epitaph
- Reduced Ranked Big Team Battle “Large party” size to six players and increased Big Team threshold to two*
- Fixed Spartan Laser occasionally falling through map on Sandtrap
- Fixes to matchmaking to allow more even leveling for players
- Disabled Mixed Skill restrictions for RBTB and Team Slayer**
As before, Bungie Studios is encouraging Halo 3 players to inform the developer of any map issues they come across by reporting the issue in the relevant forums.
