Myth confirmed: Darwinia and Multiwinia heading to Xbox Live this fall
Remember that rumor about Darwinia coming to Xbox Live? It started last year, and well, Introversion Software has finally confirmed it (due to the ESRB rating posting) and announced that Multiwinia will also be coming to XBLA. Want to know more? Click the link below.
Those who like offbeat and quirky indie video games will probably perk up at the mention of developer Introversion Software, makers of Uplink, DEFCON: Everybody Dies, and Darwinia. If you’re one of those people, you’ll be glad to know that “the last of the bedroom programmers” have finally confirmed that Darwinia is indeed coming to Xbox Live Marketplace – and it is not alone.
You heard it right. According to the announcement on the Introversion Forums, “one of the worst-kept secrets in Introversion’s history” is finally out: Darwinia and its multiplayer counterpart, Multiwinia: Survival of the Flattest is indeed coming to Microsoft’s online download service.
In case you don’t have an idea what we’re talking about, Darwinia was originally released back in 2005 and is virtually impossible to pin on any one video game genre. Players are tasked to battle a virus in a virtual world inhabited by Darwinians, little green stick men that can evolve. Multiwinia on the other hand was described as such:
Multiwinia is the natural conclusion of what we started with Darwinia way back in 2002 and, with the launch of Live Arcade, Microsoft has presented us with a fantastic opportunity to get onto a rung of the console ladder. We’re really looking forward to introducing Darwinia+ to a whole new audience. As announced, Multiwinia will also be released separately on the PC.
Also, it was noted that both titles will be released as a package dubbed as Darwinia+. An ETA was also indicated, fall this year, so mark your calendars.
