Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney was recently interviewed about the upcoming Gears of War 2 video game for the Xbox 360. From the looks of it, it seems like fans of the franchise are in for a great treat.
According to Sweeney, the next Gears of War game will offer improved physics features as well as new lighting and rendering features. The official then added:
Work on the engine will continue through the whole engine cycle. There will be major new features we’ll be adding two years from now that games just haven’t done yet.
Speaking about Unreal Engine 3 in relation to the game, Tim Sweeney said that it’s going along very nicely. As matter of fact, the improvements are allowing them to get more players in games and get more complex physics working.
Despite that, Sweeney said that there’s still room for improvement, especially when it comes to the integration between the physics and the hard code animation. He further explained:
We have quite an extensive system for that, but there’s a lot of game-specific work that can be done for improving human characters and their interactions with the environment.
In related news, Epic has denied reports saying that Gears of War 2 would be shown at the upcoming Comic Con event in New York. Epic did mention, however, that Epic Games President Michael Capps and GoW 2 scriptwriter Joshua Ortega will be in attendance.
