BD Touch: Blu-ray player technology fusion with Apple devices

A new technology called BD Touch from NetBlender will be introduced this Thursday which will feature the possible fusion of Sony’s Blu-ray technology with Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch devices. The iPod Touch and iPhone users may soon see their favorite Apple devices move to the next stage of multimedia evolution. NetBlender recently announced that a new technology that links Blu-ray content to Apple devices called BD Touch will soon be available to the public.

The solution pushes the network capabilities of Blu-ray players and allows them to sync with iPhone and iPod Touch devices. It was mentioned that it will allow the Apple devices to function as possible remote controls for their Blu-ray players and more.

A representative from the company explained some of the features behind the new technology by saying:

The sophisticated user interface of the iPhone enables greater user interaction as well as the power to leverage the iPhoneÂ’s existing network. Search, e-commerce and advertising possibilities related to movie content abound when one imagines real-time communication between the iPhone and the content currently being displayed on a Blu-ray player.

Whether this technology extended to other Blu-ray players like the PlayStation 3 has yet to be confirmed. What’s sure, though, is the fact that it will support features such as automatically updating film collections on an iPhone. It will also be possible to send a digital copy of a video from the Blu-ray device to an iPhone.
