Even if you don’t use (or never plan to use) Linux, you at least know about Tux, right? That cute penguin mascot? Back in 2003, Tux debuted in his own jump and run platform game called SuperTux, in the style of the Super Mario series. Now, the game has debuted on the PlayStation 3 thanks to developer kunaldeo. Even if you don’t use (or never plan to use) Linux, you at least know about Tux, right? That cute penguin mascot? Back in 2003, Tux debuted in his own platform game called SuperTux, in the style of the Super Mario series. Now, the game has debuted on the PlayStation 3 thanks to the efforts of developer kunaldeo.
As far as we know, this is a direct port of the original game. The port’s name is called SuperTux2. The dev notes that all libraries are included in the package. Here’s a description of the program from Wikipedia (and also posted on the dev’s site):
SuperTux is a free software, classic style 2D jump and run game inspired by the Nintendo Super Mario series. It was originally created by Bill Kendrick and is currently maintained by the SuperTux Development Team.
Instead of Mario, the hero in this game is Tux, the mascot of the Linux kernel, albeit the game’s only reference to Linux. Many of the in-game graphics were created by Ingo Ruhnke, creator of Pingus.
