Control any media-player using your Smart-Phone.

Bemused ServerI’ve been using an application called Bemused which allows me to control almost any mediaplayer using my Symbian Series 60 Phone (Nokia 6670).

On Linux it allowed me to control MPlayer and XMMS. And since compiling from source is second nature in Linux (especially Gentoo, which I use), it was pretty simple to setup.

But in Windows, you need to have Visual C++ to compile it. They dont have a binary for download because it needs a few Microsoft Powerpoint libraries while compiling and they cant bundle those files together, maybe because of copyright issues

Because of that, the awesome application basically has little popularity on Windows, even though its an amazing app. In my free time, I modified it a bit to remove all the Powerpoint references from the code. I could have compiled it with the Powerpoint libraries and no one would have cared, but it would be unethical, and I don’t have Powerpoint installed anyways. The best part is that the software is that it’s Open-Source. So you can download the source from the site mentioned below and make something great out of it.

Right now, it works perfectly. All you need is a working bluetooth dongle with a Symbian s60/uiq Phone (Phones like Nokia 6600, 3650, 7650, 6670, 6630, or Sony Ericsson phones like p800, 900, 910, etc.)
You also need to have paired your phone with your pc and setup an incoming bluetooth serial port

It might sound difficult, but it’s a 2 minute job.

The application comes in 2 parts, a Server (used on the pc) and a Client (to be installed on phone)

It currently supports the following media players:

Winamp2
Winamp3
Winamp5
Windows Media Player (Playlist Function not supported).

There’s a small bug though. I forgot to put in the minimize button. You can minimize the application by clicking on its tray icon.
