Koller: PSP 2 rumors “completely unfounded”, new PSP strategy in the works

The denials are getting stronger. First, it was a simple “no comment“, then it was David Reeves. Today, it’s John Koller firmly shaking his head at the circulating PSP2 rumors.

Says Koller, he is familiar with the rumor going around that Sony is cooking something up its sleeves, a PSP2 in particular. However, these rumors, according to him, are completely unfounded. Yes, there is something cooking up in their labs but it’s definitely not a new handheld.

So what is it then? It is, in fact, Sony’s strategy of pushing devs away from the UMD format, and towards digital distribution of games through the PlayStation Store. The PSP2 development was but a misinterpretation, he said.

We’ll expect this rumor to keep breathing until it runs out of oxygen – that would be people’s speculation. And as it is more likely that you guys won’t believe what he said, they’ll need another executive to deny once more the rumor in about a couple of weeks.
