RipDev releases Icy, a new Cydia alternative
Icy is RipDev‘s take on Cydia, meaning it also uses APT repositories to install and remove packages. According to RipDev, Icy is fast, lightweight (installation takes up a little over 1 MB compared to Cydia‘s 32 MB), and simple enough to use. Best of all, it’s completely free. More details after the jump.
Icy is RipDev‘s take on Cydia, meaning it also uses APT repositories to install and remove packages. According to RipDev, Icy is fast, lightweight (installation takes up a little over 1 MB compared to Cydia‘s 32 MB), and simple enough to use:
- It will only refresh repositories when you tell it
- allows you to browse installed packages in landscape mode
- compatible with Cydia – it will use Cydia (APT) sources to fetch package info and updates, then install the packages and see the packages installed from Cydia
- will not scroll pages of cool looking terminal text when installing or removing a package. Instead, it presents the installation process in a friendly and cool manner
- stylish animated installation screens allowing you to see what exactly is happening without having to read through scrolling text gibberish
- enhanced with crisp black and white interface featuring icons by artist Max Rudberg
Icy is completely free. You can install it through Cydia by adding the http://apt.ripdev.com source and installing it from the Packaging category. If you’re using Installer, you can find Icy in the System category.
