PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior: of OFW 5.50, the best reasons for becoming obsolete, and a pimped-out PSP Slim
While we all wait for more updates from the great minds behind the recent surge of HENs and exploits, here’s your weekly dose of the biggest PSP homebrew-related news that hit the front page this week.
Just like last week, the biggest thing on homebrew users’ minds this week was Davee‘s new HEN. It still hasn’t made an appearance and while this has put some people on the offensive, a lot more have shown a remarkable degree of patience. Good to see that the PSP homebrew community still has class.
The other big news this week was the advent of OFW 5.50. Is it hackable? Well, not right now, but that’s not to say it’ll be unhackable forever, even if Sony did disable TIFF support.
While we all wait for more updates from the great minds behind the recent surge of HENs and exploits, here’s your weekly dose of the biggest PSP homebrew-related news that hit the front page this week.
General homebrew updates:
- For the first time ever, Fanjita and the rest of Team Noobz won’t be able to follow up on a project they’ve announced. It’s still all good, though, as Fanjita says their work has been “obsoleted for the best of reasons”. Link.
- Looks like new features weren’t the only things added in firmware 5.50. TIFF incompatibility and a non-universal standby bug have been spotted. Also, the new OFW can’t be decrypted with the latest psardumper. Link.
Homebrew Apps:
- PSN License Manager levels up and now supports up to 30 slots. Link.
- Save state support and commenting feature added to TI-92 calculator emulator PSPXTI. Link.
- Flash Spacer gets a PSN info back-up and restore feature. Link.
- Bitmap Hunter goes up a notch and is now at version 4. Link.
- OpenBor gets a few extras like SecurePAK support and a new default CPU speed. Link.
Homebrew Gaming:
- DaedalusX64 Beta 2 gets a quick update release. Nothing major, but it’s still recommended that you update. Link.
- Wagic: The Homebrew?! gets more than 300 new cards and a load of performance tweaks. Link.
Other cool stuff:
- A homegrown IRDA joystick device for the good ol’ PSP Phat. Link.
- A pimped-out PSP-2000 with a sound reactive VU meter and rumble support. Link.
As usual, check back here again next week for another issue of the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior. In the meantime, why don’t you relive your childhood for a while and go play PS1 games?
