Tekken: Dark Resurrection Interview
Namco is bringing an arcade favorite to the PSP and Gamespot was around to give us some answers to the questions we’ve all been asking. Tekken: Dark Resurrection will require the same fast-paced button mashing that its beloved arcade version does. In wireless mode, you can battle your friends anywhere and anytime without the need to keep a roll of quarters in your pocket.
The interview focuses a lot on development of the game, but still manages to answer some key questions about the game. They discuss how they came up with the idea to bring it to the PSP and the challenges of redoing the controls for the PSP. The interview also mentions the variety of WiFi modes available such as battles, ghost data, and high scores. If Namco does what they do best then Tekken for the PSP shouldn’t be anything short of a hit.
Here’s a small clip from the interview:
GameSpot: Why did you choose to bring Tekken Dark Resurrection to the PSP instead of a new Tekken?
Kazushige Watanabe: Bringing the latest version of the arcade to home consoles has always been the way we handle the series.
Haruki Suzaki: The nature of the PSP hardware allowed us to transfer Tekken the way it was meant to be in a way not possible on any other handheld consoles. For this reason, the decision to bring Tekken Dark Resurrection to the PSP instead of creating a new Tekken posed a challenge in testing the possibilities of the PSP hardware.
