I was wondering where Shigeru Miyamoto was during Nintendo‘s E3 presentation yesterday. Turns out he was just hiding, biding his time until he could reveal one of the two things* I was looking for from Nintendo: a new Zelda for Wii.

Okay, he wasn’t really hiding, but he did reveal the game after the presentation during a developer roundtable. Apparently, Miyamoto’s development team wasn’t too keen on showing off a half-baked demo and wanted to concentrate instead on the full game itself. Good call, guys.

The new game has no title yet, but according to 1Up a piece of concept from the game was shown. In it, a mature Link circa Twilight Princess was barely visible through a broken wall. Standing next to him was a girl wearing a long robe and a crystal necklace.

The Zelda team is also reportedly trying out different gameplay and dungeon designs for this iteration, and Wii MotionPlus support will definitely be included. Depending on how integrated it ends up being, it may even be mandatory, just like in Red Steel 2.

Miyamoto and his team are planning to launch this new game by next year. We’ll bring you more on this new game as we see more updates.

*In case you’re wondering, the other thing was a new game from Yasumi Matsuno, whose last project was MadWorld. When Reggie said something about a “legendary RPG” yesterday, I was desperately chanting “Ogre Battle, Ogre Battle”, but hey, Golden Sun DS is also one hell of a new game to announce.
