Valve: Left 4 Dead 2 too big to be DLC, support will continue for L4D1

That’s not exactly the case for the upcoming Left 4 Dead 2, though, as more than 16,000 players have signed an online petition that pledges to boycott the game. The boycotters have stated their belief that Left 4 Dead 2 “does not warrant a stand-alone, full-priced sequel” and should just be released as DLC for the original game instead. Usually, when a sequel is announced for a successful game, people are happy.

Valve’s Chet Faliszek, however, says that it’s too big to be DLC:

It was just like, OK, this is big enough that this isn’t DLC, we’re not going to be able to leak it out. It’s a cohesive, single thing. It’s Left 4 Dead 2. … Our focus is always on what we’re putting in the box, put as much as we can in the box. With the five campaigns, all of them out of the box, playable Versus, co-op, Survival and the new mode, there’s just a ton of content in there.

Faliszek also reassured gamers that support for the original Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC) will still continue. “In fact Left 4 Dead one, we still aren’t done with it,” he said. “We still have updates coming.”
