Smell-O-Vision in Japan
Isn’t the aroma of freshly popped theater popcorn enough for the movie goers of today? Apparently not.
A Japanese company, NTT Communication Corp., has brought a whole new meaning to “the full movie experience”. They have incorporated seven different scents to be emitted throughout key parts of a film. For example, during a sad scene a mix of rosemary and peppermint will be smelt, and during a love scene floral smells will fill the air. Happy scenes are mixes of citrus and anger is a mixture of eucalyptus and tea tree. This works with a group of machines at the back of the theater that are capable of synchronizing when each scent should be emitted. As was used in the Colin Ferrill film “The New World” recently.
This new technology has also been developed for home owners. They can download a range of scents from a variety of programs that will also give you your horoscope and work as aromatherapy. These machines have to be refilled by the owners. These cost about $620.
