RROD - Image 1Has your console failed you? Any lights of death showing up? CNET wanted to know, so gamers from the UK responded to the survey with their console stories in hand. Coming out on top of the failure rate stat is the Xbox 360, with 60% of the respondents reporting that theirs have displayed the dreaded RROD.

The survey, commissioned by CNET UK last month, saw 1,128 respondents – 562 Xbox 360 owners, 473 for PS3, while 591 had Wii. They didn’t provide a three-way Venn Diagram of those numbers, but judging by those numbers, quite a few of them have more than one console.

Numbers, numbers, numbers: 34% of those who’ve had an Xbox 360 since January 2008 reported that their consoles have broken, while 47% said theirs broke within a year. Only 25% had a good 18 months before it broke, but 29% have had theirs broken more than once.

Do note that this survey is self-selecting, meaning that a random sample of console owners were not used, and those who took the survey may be ones who have a lot to say about the subject, possibly based on experience. There may also be instances where hardware failed due to neglect on the user’s end, not the manufacturer. There are a lot of variables that put the accuracy of the survey into question, but it should make for an estimate nonetheless.

In case you were curious, the survey also found that 16% of the respondents had their PS3s go YLOD, while 6% had their Wii fail.

Has your Xbox 360 red-ringed on you?
