Silicon Knights’ Dyack staggered by layoffs, optimistic for Ontario
The past year has definitely not been an easy one for… well… everybody. “Staggering” is how Silicon Knight’s Denis Dyack describes the job losses that resulted from the many company restucturings that occurred in the past year and a half. Despite this depressing sight, though, Dyack is of the belief that amidst all this negativity, Ontario will continue to rise.
Why Ontario? “Before, Ontario was a little isolated,” Dyack begins to explain. “There wasn’t a lot of videogame companies here. But that’s going to change. With all the positive steps that the government’s done.”
He also delved into the race for the best hires straight off universities: “It’s really depressing going to [University of] Waterloo to recruit and we see that Microsoft was there before us and took all the best people. The taxer paid for that education.” Hopefully, with the new business ventures springing up in Ontario, they may soon be able to combat this dilemma.
