Did you know that there’s a NASA MMO in development? Well there is, and a demo is reportedly going live next year.
Called Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond, the NASA MMO is currently being developed by Project Whitecard, Wisdom Tools, and America’s Army developer Virtual Heroes. It’ll be set in the year 2035, which apparently is when NASA projects humans will start forming settlements in space.
Those who want to try it out will be able to starting early next year via the Moonbase Alpha mini-demo. You can check out a short slideshow teaser for the demo here.
Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond isn’t just about fun and games, though. Perhaps taking a page from the military’s usage of America’s Army to help recruitment, NASA will also be using their MMO to promote learning, particularly in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. They also plan to use the MMO to grant real course accreditation to users.
