Capcom’s 2010 will be one of “structural reorganization”

megaphonemajiniIn Japan, it’s customary for companies to come out with statements regarding their plans for the new year. It’s like us going crazy with fireworks and getting outrageously drunk after. Drop that last part, that might just be me. Anyway, we’ve already heard from Square Enix’s Yoichi Wada, now it’s Capcom’s turn.

Speaking for the publisher is their COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto. “Following the extensive structural reorganization of 2004, all of Capcom’s business units and employees have been working together as a unified team,” he said. “Due to our hard work, Capcom has grown steadily to the point where we are now the leading producer of video games in the world.”

“Five years have already passed since we implemented the 2004 structural. During this period, competition has intensified at the global level. Every one of our businesses faces an increasingly challenging environment because of this fierce global competition. This is why I had to make the difficult decision to reduce our previous business forecasts. The time has come to go back to the basics from which we started five years ago and implement a second structural reorganization. I do not see any prospects for renewed growth unless we take this action.”

Doesn’t sound like Capcom will be chucking out a lot of titles this year, and it even sounds like layoffs. I hope I’m wrong.
