Tiger finds a true BFF in EA Sports, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online game to push through

Yeah, EA is still BFFs with Tiger Woods, this despite the most recent development of major sponsors AT&T and Gatorade dropping him as well from their endorsers line-up. In fact, not only are they expressing continued support for the embattled sports superstar, they are pushing through with the launch of a new online game featuring Tiger Woods.

“Count on me through thick and thin, a friendship that will never end. When you are weak, I will be strong, helping you to carry on. Call on me, I will be there. Don’t be afraid. Please believe me when I say you can count on me.” – EA to Tiger Woods.

Yeah, EA is still BFFs with Tiger Woods, this despite the most recent development of major sponsors AT&T and Gatorade dropping him as well from their endorsers line-up. David Tinson, EA Sports spokesman, revealed that they will be making an announcement shortly regarding the Tiger issue. “Our sponsorship of Tiger Woods has been the subject of a deep internal discussion over the holiday.”

Given their continued support for the embattled golf superstar, it was expected that the publisher will push through with the launch of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, a browser-based golf game that they’ve been working on for the past year. It is the aim to bring over this game later on to consoles’ online services.

Later on, Peter Moore took to his EA Sports blog to give his own two cents regarding the issue, and to confirm the game’s launch.

“Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf. We didn’t form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm’s length endorser. Far from it. We chose to partner with Tiger in 1997 because we saw him as the world’s best, most talented and exciting golfer. We struck that partnership with the assumption that he would remain near or at the top of his sport for years to come.

By his own admission, he’s made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what’s happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history.
