A growing number of games have been getting built-in DLC checkers and some form of news updaters, but for Mass Effect 2, the game will have a portal devoted specifically for those purposes. This portal is called “The Cerberus Network.”

It’s a bit of a no-brainer to mention, but activation of The Cerberus Network will be available only to those who actually purchase the game, the feature being online and all. A one-time usable unlock code will come with both the digital and physical release of the game worldwide.

Players who pick up a copy and access The Cerberus Network from January 26th will gain access to the game’s first DLC pack, which EA and BioWare promised to come free on launch day.

A second DLC will follow containing the Hammerhead, an agile hover tank for maneuvering across tough terrain. There will also be extra missions, unique in-game items, the M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun, and the Cerberus Assault Armor which boosts health, shields, and heavy weapon ammo.
