Patent application found — for new DS cartridge?

Could there be a new Cartridge design for Nintendo’s reported new DS model? It appears to be just the case as reports of a new patent application surfaced.

From the image below, it appears that the cart will be slightly protruding from the unit itself.

The application also reads: “the broken lines showing of an electronic game machine is for illustrative purposes only. But then again, the number of pins for this proposed design is a perfect for the the DS cart.

Maybe we’ll know more at the GDC? So much happening soon!
