World Health Org: 1/3 of kids around the world are fat, videogames contribute to it
The World Health Organization has spoken, and while it’s nothing exactly new, it’s still not any less troubling. According to their most recent study, about a third of the world’s kids population are fat. The kicker: videogames are contributing to the problem.
The World Health Organization has spoken, and while it’s nothing exactly new, it’s still not any less troubling. According to their most recent study, about a third of the world’s kids population are fat. The kicker: videogames are contributing to the problem.
The study involved 72,485 schoolchildren aged 13 to 15 in 34 nations. According to their findings, about a third of these teens spend some three hours a day, at the very least, glued to the TV screen. When they are in front of the boobtube, their activities then become pretty m uch limited to just watching TV shows, playing games, or surfing the Internet.
The interesting thing as well is that this number is not necessarily confined to North America, or even just among other first world countries for that matter. In fact, it doesn’t matter whether the kids are rich or poor.
“With regards to physical activity levels, we did not find much of a difference between poor and rich countries. Growing up in a poor country does not necessarily mean that kids get more physical activity.”
So what say you to this new (and not so new) finding by the World Health Organization? Maybe with the arrival of the motion technologies, being in front of the TV and playing video games wouldn’t be so bad anymore.
