SnesPSP TYL 0.4 Released! *UPDATED*

SNES

Update: Well, it didn’t take long for an update to come out. Apparently, YoyoFR has fixed a sound issue in the Standard Version. This update is only for those who downloaded the Standard Version. If you’re using the ME version, you don’t need to download this release.

The homebrew community is having one of it’s best times lately. After seeing the thundering response to Daedalus, I’m assuming that this release will simply blow the roof off! Yes, SnesPSP TYL 0.4 is out! After all the hype, it’s here. And man, does it rock.

YoyoFR has just released his latest version of the most popular SNES emulator for the PSP. And it’s got new features by the bucketloads. Let me quote him here, “It’s not as polished as what I wanted, but hey, it’s released after all ;-)”

So how about checking out the changelog? First, the new features:

  • SPC playback through openspc++.
  • Sound emulation moved to Media Engine.
  • New GUI with some sounds (beep). Default key combo for GUI access is now L+R
  • Have your own background and SPC music played in background when in GUI. Put them in logo.zip & music.zip.
  • Adhoc 2 players mode. Requires both players to have the same rom file.
  • Speed limiter in fps (ranging from 10 to 120fps).
  • Hack to help reading thin fonts in hi-res mode (“shake” the screen). Activate it from the Hack/Debug sub menu.
  • Minimalist txt file viewer (buggy).
  • Usb support : When in File Browser or Menu use R (right trigger).
  • SRAM is now saved if modified when accessing menu.
  • Minimalist 2 players adhoc netplay. Thanks to Chris Swindle for his netplay code in SMS.
  • Uses the great OSK from danzel.

Now the fixes:

  • Frame skipping (AUTO & fixed) better handled.
  • Import savestate from snes9xTYL.
  • Psp Accelerated Rendering issues (ff6 borders, small lines on left & right borders when using render!=1:1…)
  • Sourcecode clean-up (Not complete, still a bit messy)

There’s still one small niggle though, the emulation is still slower than v0.2 in no sound mode. The problem is related to the new PSPSDK and internal changes in Emulator Core.

What good is a release without some screenshots? Well, here’s a few to whet your appetite:

Two versions have been released, the standard version which runs in user mode, and the ME version, which runs in Kernel Mode. If you’re on 1.50, download the ME version for better speed. If you’re on 2.0 or above, be sure to download the standard version. The source code is also bundled.

Thanks to all the people who sent us an email regarding this new release.
