It takes a lot of guts to admit that something didn’t quite turn out the way you expected it to, especially after a whole lot of hyping and grandstanding. But that’s exactly what Take-Two CEO Ben Feder did in an interview with VentureBeat when he conceded that BioShock 2 wasn’t entirely the huge success they anticipated it to be.

“It was ultimately successful, but not hugely successful,” he said. That goes to say that the title did bring home the bacon despite not meeting the very high standards set. “BioShock 2 is profitable for the compnay and is a great success. The franchise is viable and has a lasting impact on consumers.”

He also delved into what could have been the reason behind the lack in sales.”The surprise factor is always going to be there. Sometimes they work for you and sometimes they work against you. Our goal is to have them work for us. More often than not. We are in the business of creating huge franchises and launching hits.”

He did express continued optimism though. “We are also looking forward to other hits coming this year.”

BioShock 2 sold 562,900 copies in the US since it releasd back in February. It was also released on the PS3 and PC but did not fare as well.
