Yuji Horii wants Twitter for Dragon Quest IX
One of the big features in Dragon Quest IX is its interactive Tag Mode, a feature that allows players that run into each other in the streets share and interact locally through the Nintendo DS. The feature was named “most popular ad hoc wireless game feature” by Guinness in Japan, but it doesn’t look like the West will be able to use it as much. If you ask Yuji Horii, that’s where Twitter would come in handy.

“I don’t think the game population is as dense over there as it is in Japan, so I’m not sure if exchanges can happen as much,” said the game designer. “But on the other hand, Twitter is really popular and I think Twitter and Dragon Quest can co-exist. You can use Twitter and say, ‘I’m around here right now, so if anyone’s playing, assemble here and let’s exchange stuff!’ That could happen, or they could use Twitter and get a multiplayer game going.”
Twitter integration is no stranger to video games, so its possible to have it in the future. More so, the idea is in line with Yoichi Wada’s plans of incorporating interactive multiple-player features into all of their games.
